Elon Musk Rules Twitter - Trump's Second Chance

In the last post, I talked about how social media has changed political advertising and allows a platform for rampant misinformation. However, I forgot to include that politicians/candidates themselves can do the same thing with their own accounts. When Twitter banned political advertisements around the time of the 2020 election, they also banned Donald Trump from the platform. Trump relied heavily on Twitter to get his messages across to his supporters, and despite it being over a year post-insurrection, his account still hasn't been reinstated.

Now, Elon Musk is the largest share-holder of Twitter shares, and he is soon to join the company's board. While Twitter has released a statement that nothing will change with his audition, the Republican pressure on him begs to differ. Because Musk has spoken openly about his concerns over free speech in the media, Republicans have insisted he reinstate the accounts of those "silenced". One of which is House Rep Marjorie Greene Taylor, who also had her account suspended earlier this year. In a tweet she wrote, "Will the majority shareholder return freedom of speech to Twitter? It will require courage bc the regime is heavily investing in a certain industry and threats will undoubtedly come. Yet the freedom of speech restored will enable us all to defeat them".

If he were to reinstate Trump's account, that could mean big things for the 2024 election. If he decides to run again, Twitter would be the perfect place to start rallying support. Do you think Musk will give Trump his Twitter back? Should he?

  1. If Elon Musk gives Trump his Twitter back there will be outrage from many of the users of Twitter while there will be celebrations from Republicans. I do not know much about why Trump was banned from Twitter but since it is a private company they get to make their own rules. If he broke any of their guidelines he does not deserve to get his account back.
